Abstract

This obituary commemorates the life and scientific achievements of Vera T. Sós (1930–2023), one of the most influential Hungarian mathematicians in number theory, combinatorics, graph theory, and discrepancy theory. The article reviews her pioneering contributions to the theory of uniform distribution, the three-gap theorem, extremal graph theory, quasi-random graphs, and graph limits. It also highlights her role as an educator, mentor, and scientific leader whose work profoundly shaped several generations of mathematicians. Her lasting impact on discrete mathematics, both through her research and her academic service, is recognized through numerous national and international honors. This tribute acknowledges her exceptional legacy and her enduring influence on modern mathematics.
