On the Death of Peter Szusz

This note commemorates the life and scientific legacy of Peter Szusz (1924–2008), a distinguished mathematician whose research made significant contributions to probabilistic number theory, uniform distribution, continued fractions, Diophantine approximation, and constructive function theory. The article reviews his academic career from Hungary to the United States, highlights his major mathematical achievements—particularly his influential work on the Gauss–Kuzmin theorem—and reflects on his personal character, intellectual independence, and enduring impact on the mathematical community.
