Abstract

In today’s deep integration of new-generation information technology, such as cloud computing and big data, with classroom teaching, smart education is gradually emerging and increasingly becoming an inevitable trend of future education development. To fully prove that the smart classroom has a positive effect on the improvement of college English interactivity, this paper constructs a model of an English smart classroom. The iFIAS coding system is used to code the interactive behaviors of teachers and students in the classroom by recording English teaching videos. The smart classroom’s impact on English teaching interaction was analyzed by recording the frequency of each behavior and its corresponding frequency. The rate of student speech in traditional classrooms is about 10% lower than in smart classrooms, which suggests that smart classrooms promote active exploration and increase student engagement. After using the smart classroom, teacher 1, whose frequency of directly imparting knowledge decreased from 181 to 156 times, and the frequency of indirectly encouraging students to learn by complimenting them changed from 9 to 23 times. The smart classroom can improve the silent behavior that contributes to the classroom and increase students’ use of smart technology. To summarize, smart classrooms can improve the interactivity of English classrooms by influencing teachers’ and students’ speech, making English teaching more interesting and efficient.
